Burn the Fat Feed The Muscle Review
Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle is a very popular weight loss ebook which is one of the most successful digital products in the fitness category. However, in a niche filled with often contradictory information, it is hard to distinguish what is popular from what just plain works. In this review we will look at this program closely to help you determine if it is for you.
Where Did It Come From?
Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle: Fat Burning Secrets of the World’s Best Bodybuilders & Fitness Models was developed by Tom Venuto in 2002. Tom was once in the shoes of many of us, growing up as a chubby kid in high school and college. He struggled to lose weight until he stumbled across an 80 year old scientific paper on weight loss that unlocked the secrets of losing weight for him.
After stumbling across this secret he rapidly lost his weight, getting down into the mid-single digit body fat percentage. He eventually went on to win seven separate body-building championships. His methods not only worked for him, but worked for many others that he has coached the last 20 years as a professional trainer. In this program he distills his extensive hands on knowledge to the masses.
What Were the Secrets?
While he covers many in his book, two of the most basic are (1) it is of paramount importance to maintain muscle while burning fat and (2) different body types require different programs to get weight loss. These explain why most people fail.
People can go overboard in dieting where their calorie restriction leads to loss of muscle leading to the dreaded plateaus and rebound phenomenon when people come off an unnaturally low calorie diet. By focusing the efforts around fat loss and muscle retention people can break this cycle. Additionally, people will often assume the same diet advice that worked for someone else will work for them when they have a completely different body type. This becomes another diet stumbling block.
How Does This Differ From Other Programs?
Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle contains one of the most comprehensive, yet understandable, explanations of the way the body’s metabolism works. He covers the vast majority of dietary fads out there: low-carb, low-fat, low-calorie, etc. and explains the pitfalls of each in terms of what we know about metabolism. Many of these diets will work for the right people; however, they can be associated with rebound or simply not be optimal for the most rapid weight reduction possible.
In this book, you will find all sorts of secrets for boosting your metabolism and really shedding pounds. The analysis includes composition of meals, timing of meals, calculating your optimal calorie requirements, combining your diet with a compatible exercise program, and how to cycle your diet to absolutely maximize weight loss while maintaining or increasing muscle mass.
How Easy Is This To Implement?
This is going to vary from person to person. His program emphasizes moderation in calorie reduction to get sustainable 1-2 pound per week reductions with calories from balanced sources. Therefore, in terms of willpower, you are not going to need to starve yourself or need to go without carbs, protein, or fats. Indeed it is designed to create a permanent lifestyle, not a brief diet.
On the other hand, to implement the full plan with every optimization is logistically a lot more complex. For people who are properly motivated to lose weight as fast as possible this should not be a problem, and he talks in the first chapter about the need to have challenging goals to motivate you.
However, I have to say I implemented only a fraction of the suggestions and was easily able to break through a persistent weight plateau I faced for years just by carefully monitoring my food intake using his calorie cycling technique. If I had time to implement the weight training program and the more carefully coordinated meals and food composition I can only imagine how much better the results would have been.
What Else Make This Program Stand Out?
Mr. Venuto includes a lot of ancillary reports important to getting to your fat goal. One of the most important is the report on how to measure your body fat accurately yourself. This is important for following the program to make sure to track fat loss, instead of weight loss to make sure you are not losing muscle. This is something I have gotten into a daily habit of doing.
The other thing that I found very useful was the spreadsheet to help with daily meal planning. It calculates your caloric needs for the day and each meal, and combined with the database of foods allows one to plan the type of optimal meals described in the book.
For those serious about counting calories and meal planning, this is awesome! It allows you to put together custom daily plans instead of following the “sample” meal plans that most programs have. The only thing I wish would improve was some way of automatically rolling it up into a historical profile; but that would be hard to do with a spreadsheet and probably require a separate software package.
Where Is the Book Lacking?
It really is about the most complete manual that I have read on weight loss. If I had to say there is one area where other programs might do a better job is on the exercise portion. He gives a good discussion of what to do, but does not go into extensive specifics.
A great book which I find complements this is Mike Geary’s The Truth About Six Pack Abs which is sort of a mirror image; he shares a lot of similar views to Venuto (differing mainly on the value of cardiovascular endurance exercise in losing weight), but his book emphasizes more a huge list of exercises to help one shed fat at maximal weight. When I get time to implement the weight program with Venuto’s meal specifications, I can only imagine how effective it is.
What Do Customers Have to Say About It?
Implementing only a fraction of the recommendations, this helped me a lot . Ultimately, one needs to look at a variety of people who have used it to see their results. This is one program where the reviews are really stellar, which probably explains the massive degree of positive press Mr. Venuto has gotten. Here are some representative reviews:
The Ultimate Verdict: Will This Work For You?
I have used a lot of different weight loss programs before: low carb/Atkins, intermittent fasting, extreme exercise programs like P90X etc. This however was the one that made losing weight more consistent with less effort (granted I did not even follow through with the whole program…). The thing that makes this unique is that a variety of diets are effective when implemented, this one actually is used by professional trainers to get down to those last stubborn pounds towards single digit body fat level. Fads can only get you so far, this appears to be able to take us down to any goal, no matter how ambitious.
Of course, with anything you are never going to know until you try it yourself. Tom Venuto is so confident that this will work if you follow through that he gives an 8 week guarantee. Note that since this is an ebook, you need to make sure you buy it from the safe, official website to get the guarantee. If you are not satisfied for any reason after that time, you can return the product, no questions asked.
Additionally, if you feel competitive, Mr. Venuto is currently offering a chance to win a free 7 day vacation to Hawaii in his transformations contest. Another thing you might find useful, if you leave the sales page twice you can get to try the program for only $4.95 upfront, with the remaining $35 billed 21 days later in which time you might have a better indication if you want to keep it or not.
So if you are willing to change your lifestyle and make a commitment to this program, you really have little to lose if you are struggling achieving your weight loss goals.
